Cameron Montgomery is a dedicated saxophonist, educator, and performer with a passion for music that spans a variety of genres and instruments. Cameron holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance from Lamar University. His studies have provided him with a strong foundation in classical and jazz saxophone performance, as well as a deep understanding of advanced techniques such as circular breathing, altissimo, and more, which he continues to explore and refine.
In addition to the saxophone, Cameron has expanded his musical versatility by learning the flute and clarinet, primarily to contribute to jazz band and musical theater performances. This exploration of different instruments has allowed him to approach music from a broader perspective, enhancing both his playing and teaching abilities. Currently, Cameron is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree, with a saxophone concentration, to further develop his skills and continue his growth as both a performer and educator.
As an educator, Cameron is passionate about inspiring and guiding students of all ages. He has taught private lessons, masterclasses, and served as a clinician for various school programs, working with students from middle school through college. Cameron’s teaching philosophy emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also a deep appreciation for the artistry and creativity that music can inspire. His commitment to the development of his students is reflected in the personalized, supportive learning environment he fosters, helping them to develop confidence and musicality.
Throughout his career, Cameron has been an active performer, constantly seeking new opportunities to collaborate with other musicians and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the community. Whether through solo performances, small ensembles, or large groups, he is always eager to share his music and connect with audiences. Cameron is particularly passionate about jazz and its rich history, and he continues to explore new ways of blending jazz techniques with his classical training.
Cameron is also deeply involved in the ongoing exploration and research of saxophone techniques, particularly the application of circular breathing in both classical and contemporary performance. In 2025, he will present a lecture recital on circular breathing at the NASA Saxophone Conference in Missouri, an opportunity to share his findings with fellow saxophonists and learn from the leading experts in the field. His research is centered on providing pedagogical resources for saxophonists to effectively teach and incorporate extended techniques into their practice, an area he feels is often overlooked in standard saxophone education.
